THE DWYER PROSECUTION (1983-1987)

1983-84 -- Dwyer humiliates Thornburgh's wife (Ginnygate) and exposes taxpayer abuse (Chauffeurgate)
1984 -- CTA conspirators approach Thornburgh's people with bribes. Rather than report the crime, Thornburgh's associates allegedly redirect the scheme to Dwyer
1984 -- Thornburgh "conveniently" receives anonymous memo about bribery. Opens investigation targeting Dwyer.
1985 -- William Smith, at his OWN trial, testifies he did NOT bribe Dwyer
1985-86 -- Prosecutors threaten Smith's wife with charges. Smith reverses testimony.
1986 -- Dwyer convicted. Unindicted co-conspirators list SEALED -- protecting Thornburgh's associates.
Jan 22, 1987 -- Dwyer reads 21-page statement, accuses Thornburgh of vendetta, shoots himself on live television. No money ever found.
Aug 1988 -- Thornburgh appointed US Attorney General by Reagan. The Dwyer prosecution was his audition tape.
2010 -- Smith admits on camera he lied. No posthumous review conducted.

THE OBSTRUCTION (1988-1991)

BCCI -- $13 Billion

Bank of Credit and Commerce International. CIA front. $13B money laundering. Drug trafficking. Arms deals. Thornburgh's DOJ gave "zero cooperation" to Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau. Senator John Kerry had to bypass DOJ entirely. Morgenthau indicted BCCI in 1991 -- no thanks to the Attorney General.

INSLAW/PROMIS -- Stolen Software

DOJ stole tracking software from Inslaw Inc. Bankruptcy court found DOJ acted through "trickery, fraud, and deceit." Modified PROMIS was sold to foreign intelligence services worldwide by Robert Maxwell -- Mossad asset, father of Ghislaine Maxwell. Thornburgh refused to appear before Congress. Claimed documents were "missing."

Iran-Contra -- Arms for Hostages

Reagan admin sold weapons to Iran, funneled profits to Nicaraguan Contras. Thornburgh's DOJ managed the aftermath. His successor Barr advised Bush Sr. to pardon 6 defendants on Christmas Eve 1992 -- including Caspar Weinberger, whose trial was about to begin.

THE OCTOPUS: DANNY CASOLARO (1991)

Freelance journalist Danny Casolaro spent his final year investigating what he called "The Octopus" -- the convergence of INSLAW/PROMIS, BCCI, Iran-Contra, and the October Surprise. He believed they were all one interconnected conspiracy with tentacles in the DOJ, CIA, and Mossad.

On August 10, 1991, Casolaro was found dead in a bathtub at the Sheraton Hotel in Martinsburg, West Virginia. His wrists had been slashed 10-12 times. His notes and documents were missing from the hotel room. He had told friends: "If anything happens to me, don't believe it was an accident."

Ruling: Suicide. The man investigating Thornburgh's DOJ died while Thornburgh was still Attorney General.

Robert Asher was Dwyer's co-defendant in the 1986 CTA case. He served 1 year -- compared to Dwyer's potential 55. After prison, he became "the most influential Republican in Southeastern Pennsylvania."

In 2020, Asher was originally slated as a fake elector in the scheme to overturn the presidential election for Donald Trump.
